What sets Claire apart from her Fi-dom friend Layne is that she maintains a deep desire to be accepted by the Pretty Committee, something Layne scoffs at and even Massie with her inferior Fi finds embarrassing. But Claire’s Fe is good enough that she actually uses it to succeed in this desire. She is very tuned into the social dynamics of the group and uses that to her advantage to get in. When she wants to, she is arguably more adept at subtly manipulating the social dynamic than even Te-dom Massie, who manipulates others with threats and force but occasionally hard misses when it comes to picking up on social cues. Si-Ne > Ni-Se because she’s excited to move to Westchester in theory (inferior Ne) but in practice she struggles hard to find her footing in such a new environment and to fully shed her old self. She naturally gravitates towards the least Westchester-y person at Octavian Country Day (Layne) not because Layne is different or more authentic necessarily but because Layne feels the least unfamiliar. Also she’s constantly getting blindsided by Massie’s own Ni schemes against her 😭 poor girl. No wonder she and Massie take so long to find common ground, each of them leads with the other’s blind function. Claire does not comprehend Massie’s whole Te-dom mean girl shtick, which must be incredibly frustrating, while Massie herself cannot understand Claire’s sentimentality and preference for comfort over style.
