Benedict of Nursia (who lived from c.March 2, 480 – c.March 21, 547 AD) was a late Antique Christian monastic who is renowned for being the founder of the Benedictine congregation. Saint Benedict founded 12 communities for monks at Subiaco in Italy, before founding the monastery at Monte Cassino in southern Italy.
