William Gale Vinton was an American pioneering stop-motion film animator and director who popularized the Claymation art form. His films were mostly of an experimental or kid-friendly nature and his early works were primarily adaptations of famous novels. He won the academy award for best animated short film Closed Mondays (1974) alongside his sculptor friend and colleague Bob Gardiner.
