ENFJ is perfect for his MBTI, but I actually disagree with him being a 2. I see more of a Social 7 in him. I feel like Colvin doesn’t have the superego-rejection double of a 2. He doesn’t brute force his way into people’s lives to make them love him, and he is surprisingly “amoral” in an effective way, meaning that he is able to see the impact of things rather than the moral principles behind them. Sure, he evidently does care about justice, but I don’t see him excessively being led by superego when he makes decisions. To me, when I see Colvin, I see someone who is able to channel his Id tendencies to get what he wants, or to make things work better through a social lens. I feel like a superego lead would want less to do with legalizing drugs in a way that’s against the rules. I feel like he is a good example of a 7 who would want to make change. Of course 2s can also be rebellious, but I feel like Colvin’s specific brand of rebellion was very 7-esque. Most 2s I know would not be nearly as comfortable decimating the rules and systems the way he does. I also see Frustration triad tendencies - his own precedent lies in his vision of what policing is, and the ideal is not reflected in his own reality. So, he seeks to change it. Frusturation types can be whiny entitled artists, but they can also be visionaries. They can be people who see what things could be, and channel it right. I see Colvin as a very well adjusted 7, personally. What makes me think Colvin is a 7 over a 2 is that I feel like his actions are less transactional for respect and love from others than a 2 might be (subconsciously). I don’t see a heart type in Colvin at all. He doesn’t seem neurotic about how he is situated compared to others in the slightest. I felt like the motivation for his own experiments were a curiosity to do things differently, a desire to change variables, and a desire to see the effective impact of the game pan out in a way that minimizes harm I feel like he uses this intellectual gluttony for the good of other people. Colvin doesn’t let his flaws show that much, but I feel like whatever flaws he does show are quite consistent with a 7s. Other people pay the price for his experiment. People suffer in Hamsterdam because he wanted to do an experiment to fulfill his curiosity and desire for disruption. He does whatever he wants for his own fulfillment, and lets other people clean up the mess. This seems to be consistent with how a Social 7’s gluttony might manifest outside of their ideal selves they project. I see 8 in his trifix over 1 as well. No way would he be a double superego type. I feel like he could be 7w6 with an 8 fix, as he tends to supplement his 7 instincts with the 6’s reflexive thinking, and understanding different viewpoints. Could be convinced of him being 7w8 though!
背景
Colvin is the Major in command of the Western District. While he's a reasonable commander who is sincerely devoted to protecting the community, he has become burned out and jaded after witnessing the corruption of Baltimore in general and its police department in particular for many years. Sick of seeing so much death related to the drug game, he comes up with the "Hamsterdam" free-zone experiment in Season 3. When his superiors finally find out and Hamsterdam causes a political firestorm, he is forced to retire in disgrace because of it. After retiring from the police he goes on to try to rehabilitate delinquent middle school children and keep them from joining gangs. He find success in Namond Brice, whom he also adopts.
