I think before she's revealed as the mastermind, she truly does act quite "plain" and her personality feels literally impossible to get right. Afterwards though, her "true" personality in a way, I think her personality is made quite obvious. Her primary motivation for Danganronpa is because the people like it. Throughout her entire explanation for why Danganronpa exists, she states the public's allure to the series and its purpose for the people. She plays almost exclusively off of the emotional reactions of others in the Chapter 6 trial, whether it be that of the crowd or that of the other characters. To Tsumugi, fiction exists for the sole purpose of entertainment because that is the socially accepted and encouraged opinion to have. It brings people joy and excitement, and as such, she strongly dedicates herself into making "perfect" fiction. Her motivations are lead by Fe. I truly don't understand the Ni dom arguments because Tsumugi doesn't prioritize linear thinking and specific outcomes. In Chapter 6 she doesn't care who wins between hope and despair, she cares about pleasing the fans. Throughout the duration of the game she does not showcase any care for trying to solve problems. She shows a care for group unity. Even in trying to defend herself she goes back to the fact that everyone should be friends. Despite the fact she's seemingly absentminded in trials when it comes to the discussion, she's shown to be really quick on her feet during Chapter 6. She adapts to Shuichi's defiance quickly and really plays off of their emotions within that moment. This isn't to say she's low in Ni, she has plenty of it. It's just not her primary mindset. She utilizes Ni to support Fe-Se. She plans in order to influence her environment, which is textbook ENxJ behavior. Say what you want about ENFJ vs INFJ, but Tsumugi is a 3. Tsumugi is highly impressionable. From her cosplay to her role as the mastermind, Tsumugi has always wanted to impress. Her "plain" persona is a reflection of her self-esteem and her opinion towards herself. Such is evident in Chapter 6 when the trial is over and she says she'll be happy going down in history as a cosplay cat criminal. She believes herself to be plain, as confides in her cosplay. She is not "evil" in the way Junko is. She does not do the things she does because she finds it fun. She does it because it is what people want and expect of her. She is part of Team Danganronpa, a company that produces killing game entertainment. In her past explained through FTEs, she got into cosplay by chance by interacting with a popular cosplayer at a convention. Obviously she'd combine the two things she's proud of in order to provide the best experience for people. She revels in the fact she was able to produce "Ultimate Real Fiction," and when people stop tuning in for it, her life is over. Her reputation is crushed and her main source of happiness is gone. She isn't primarily a 2 with the vice of pride. She's a 3 with a strong vice in vanity. She wants to be the ideal version of herself- that is, to not be herself. As Ultimate Cosplayer, she has perfected being someone else. She looks up to Junko and wants to cause chaos and destruction within the fiction she has created in order to please those on the outside world. Like she says, a world without Danganronpa isn't a world she wants to live in because she centered her whole life around it. She is apathetic to death because to her, life no longer has purpose. Even in trying to act like Junko, the person she idealizes, she isn't accurate to her character. All Junko ever cared about was despair and chaos, yet she tries to negotiate and "win" to keep Danganronpa alive because her identity revolves around the show. Even her sincerest imitation is flawed, all because she wants Danganronpa to keep going. I also don't quite agree with 3w2. I think 3w4 fits better becaause Tsumugi doesn't fit the pride vice well nor does she have a lot of 2 tendencies. Before being revealed as the mastermind she keeps referring to herself as plain and someone who fades into the background. She never goes out of her way to help people and has great pride in doing so such as Kaede. She has a low self-image as I've stated before in a way that makes it seem like she's doing it for pity. She envies those who are more interesting than her, which is another motivation for her cosplay. She states herself that she loves "becoming" fictional characters. In a way, it seems like cosplay is Tsumugi's escape from her otherwise plain life. Vanity and envy being the main two motivations of a cosplayer fits extremely well anyway. I really doubt she has a 2's pride.
