Michael Cypher was Richard's stepbrother and First Councilor of Hartland. He is the son George Cypher and Mary Cypher. Michael didn't have a great relationship with his father or his stepbrother. When he found out that Richard wasn't his real brother, his father made him swear not to tell Richard. In season 1, Michael is killed by a D'Haran while trying to help Richard and Kahlan.
