The sixth of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs... the unifier of Morocco and the savior of Andalusia. The founder of the Almoravid state, Yusuf ibn Tashfin The man known as the greatest king of his time, whose state surpassed the Abbasid Caliphate at the time. He refused to call himself "Commander of the Faithful" despite pressure from scholars of his time and the insistence of his advisors. Instead, he chose to pledge allegiance to the Abbasid Caliph, who appointed him governor of the Maghreb and granted him the title "Commander of the Muslims." He was simple and austere despite the prosperity of his people and the wealth of his country. He would say, "My best clothing is wool, and my best food is barley." Adding to his virtues were his humility and noble character. When asked about the reason for his victory, he said, "I was victorious only through the loyalty of my brothers." Ibn Khaldun said of his justice, "Yusuf was one of the greatest kings of Islam in piety and justice." He would disguise himself as a simple man and wander the streets among the people to learn about their circumstances. Our great man was born in 400 AH (400 AH) into the Amazigh tribe of Limtuna (called Berber by the West out of hatred and envy for the contributions these tribes made to support Islam). Between the Sahara desert of Morocco and Mauritania, at a time when the Islamic world was torn apart by the weakness of the Abbasid Caliphate, the beginnings of the Crusades against Jerusalem, the corrupt Fatimid state, and the Taifa rulers who divided Andalusia to the point where they were so weak they had to pay tribute to the King of Castile. Amid this dire reality, Sheikh Abdullah ibn Yasin, founder of the Almoravid movement, emerged... with the goal of returning people to the true religion and instilling a love of jihad to unify Morocco, which had been transformed into warring states bearing nothing of Islam but its name... At the hands of the Sheikh, Yusuf was raised, and his tribe embraced the Sheikh's ideas and helped him expand his movement throughout the region. Yusuf assumed leadership of the movement ten years after its founding. After the sheikh's death, Abu Bakr ibn Umar assumed leadership, then abdicated in favor of his nephew, Yusuf, after he recognized his shrewdness, wisdom, and unique ability for management and planning. Ibn Tashfin continued his expansion until he controlled northern Morocco, reaching Senegal and Nigeria. He established the Almoravid state with Marrakesh as its capital. After twenty years of jihad, it became one of the largest, most prosperous, and most just states. He was even offered the opportunity to compete with the caliphate and annex it, but he refused, not wanting to divide the Muslim ranks. After the fall of Toledo in 476 AH, Yusuf received a distress call from Al-Mu'tamid ibn Abbad, one of the Taifa rulers, pleading for help to rescue them from the Reconquista led by Alfonso, King of Castile. He rushed to the aid of the Muslims, a supporter, not a greedy one. He defeated the Crusaders in a crushing victory at the Battle of Zallaqa in 479, leaving only 500 of the 80,000 Crusader fighters to survive. He then returned to Morocco after the death of his eldest son, fearing the country would fall into political turmoil. This gave the Crusaders an opportunity to catch their breath and direct their anger at the Muslims of eastern Andalusia. They sent him a message asking for his help after the taifa rulers refused to rescue them. Andalusian scholars issued a fatwa demanding the removal of the corrupt taifa rulers and migrated to the Almoravids to pledge allegiance to Yusuf ibn Tashfin, whom they saw as a liberator and savior. After consulting the scholars of Baghdad and Morocco, Yusuf set out to remove the taifa rulers who had conspired with the Crusaders against the Muslims of eastern Andalusia. He overthrew them one by one and restored unity to Andalusia, just as the Companions had first conquered it. Historians recount that he delayed the fall of Andalusia for a full 400 years. After a year-long struggle with illness, our great man passed away at the age of 100, having achieved accomplishments that would continue for centuries after his death. May God have mercy on Abu Ishaq Yusuf ibn Tashfin.

背景

Yusuf ibn Tashfin, also Tashafin, Teshufin, (Arabic: يوسف بن تاشفين ناصر الدين بن تالاكاكين الصنهاجي‎, romanized: Yūsuf ibn Tāshfīn Naṣr al-Dīn ibn Tālākakīn al-Ṣanhājī; reigned c. 1061 – 1106) was leader of the Berber Moroccan Almoravid empire.
