Clark is SP9 I don’t really understand why Clark would be sp8, unless you look at surface level characterisations. If you look deeper you can see that most of Clark’s actions go against the core of e8, I’m going to explain why he instead fits the profile of a sp9 at the peak of its neurosis. Clark quickly adapted and was able to find comfort in the backrooms to the extent of not wanting to return to the real world. in the backrooms he didn’t have to deal with external demands, his messy relationships, and even his goals. He was able to avoid all of his problems, thoughts and feelings. Even before he entered the backrooms these “numbing” traits were still prevalent in his life. Through alcohol, and the routine of work he was able to avoid his goals and relationships. Despite him dealing with depression he still reframed situations in a positive way. When his therapist asked about his loneliness he told her he preferred it that way, that he liked the solitude, even though his loneliness was one of the main factors contributing to his worsened mental state. He lost touch with what he wanted and needed and instead indulged in numbing physical habits in order to avoid his inner self. When we look at all of these behavioural patterns we are able to see that Clark does not take an assertive response to try and fix his situation, he instead chose the easy way out, the path where he no longer had to confront the hardships and confronting challenges of his messy life.
