He possesses an extremely strong Ti. He often finds himself wandering in his thoughts, searching for pseudo-philosophical arguments and trying to make logical sense of what happens in the camp based on his own perception of reality. It seems to me that he leans more towards the Se aux of an ISTP than the Ne aux of an INTP. Especially since he has a more active participation in the events. Edit: Rereading the story, I realize there are good arguments for both Ne aux and Se aux. Semyon has a strong divergence of thought. Along its lines, his analysis constantly wanders through multiple themes and various abstract reasonings and he begins to digress frequently (Ne). Also, I could argue that his Se is weak enough to be aux since he generally acts out of compulsion and not of his own free will, although a Dom + Tert loop and his enneatype 9 might explain this.. In fact, he always preferred isolation (although that also depends a bit on the decisions you make) to tasks and social interaction, which generally irritated him.
