analyzing all of the rise turtles (1/4) starting with donatello, my favorite in this iteration. first of all, i disagree with the consensus that donnie is a core 3. enneagram 3's are very image dependent. a better example of a type 3 in this iteration would be leo, who puts on an act in hopes to be praised by the people around him. donnie doesn't change for other people's opinion per se, but rather validation. he communicates his love through his inventions in hopes that the recipient will appreciate the gift they receive and validate his intellect. 1's believe that by being strict with themselves and striving for perfection, they'll gain self-confidence from the approval of others. to differentiate further, 1's are more idealistic and by-the-book than 3's (of whom are more pragmatic/strategic). 3's are more motivated by achieving their goals than by adhering to specific methods; getting the job done matters more to them than the details of how it’s accomplished. but 1's are often committed to specific methods or procedures or what makes sense to them. 3's are more adaptable and will quickly change tactics if they're not getting the results they want. donnie likes to go with what he knows will work, which not only aligns with the enneagram 1, but also Te-dominant types, more specifically ENTJ. Te bases actions on conclusions that are already proven/likely to be true; and go by a specific formula and believe that anything fitting this formula is right and anything that doesn't is wrong. (to generalize.) jungian Te description paraphrase: "their moral code doesn't allow exceptions, and he insists on achieving his ideal because he sees it as the truest form of objective reality." seem familiar to you? that's because his Te complies with the enneagram 1-- he's idealistic and wants to do what works, not make up a new way to do something. his inferior Fi is pretty clear; he struggles to identify and express his own emotions (that struggle most likely stems from him being on the autism spectrum.) if he were an INTJ he would use Fi more often, but for ENTJs Fi comes out under stress (if not at all), which we see it takes a lot for donnie to get truly worked up. we see him truly reach pure stress only a few times in the show, and once in the movie. i'm going to do raph next, stay tuned :)

The smartest of the turtles, Donnie never hesitates to show off his inventions and rub his brain in others' faces. While his ego and desire to prove himself can make him a pain, he cares deeply about his family and only wants to prove himself to them.
