The series was produced and sponsored by the Kenner company, The World of Strawberry Shortcake was the first special to feature the American Greetings character Strawberry Shortcake. Ignored by network television, it premiered on March 28, 1980, in syndication in over 90 cities across the United States, and was later released on 16mm film, VHS, Beta, and DVD.
