She is recognised as the best young tactician the Magnae Forces has and is greatly appreciated by almost all within their ranks. But despite her high ranking, Frederica is not happy with her position in the forces or in her life. She believes she is deserving of Dagim’s top spot as the highest ranking recruit and future saviour of humanity, and is plagued by her envy towards him as well as a great fear for the future of humanity, not to mention her strange dreams and visions that give her horrible migraines and make her question her sanity. Badass Bookworm: Frederica is as studious as she is brave. She reads books with the same obsessive determination she uses to train her body and sharpen her sickle. She is the best tactician of the Magnae Forces war recruits and, despite not being a soldier, is willing to charge onto the battlefield if need be. Crazy-Prepared: In her spare time, Frederica is seen constantly writing plans and contingencies in preparation for various unfortunate events that could ruin humanity’s war effort. Part of her effectiveness as a tactician and strategist is the countless plans she makes for just a single task. At one point in the book, she creates her own language in order to write notes for a secret plan she has that she does not want anyone who might stumble upon her plans to decipher if her pages are found. Determinator: Frederica is one of the most determined recruits around, rivalling Dagim in terms of willpower. She works herself to the bone day in and day out, forming plans and training hard to prepare herself for anything that might come her way during the war. She also manages to deny the corrupting force of mental apparitions, preventing the powerful psyche of a godly alien creature from taking over her mind through sheer force of will. Dreaming of Things to Come: Frederica is a visionary in every sense. All of her life, Frederica often had incredibly vivid dreams that were so realistic it was as if she was truly travelling to the places they took her. Later on in the book, it is revealed that these dreams are really visions of events currently happening or soon to happen on another planet or mortal plane. Envy: For a good portion of the book, Frederica despises the fact that a soldier like Dagim, whom she thinks is animalistic, impulsive and lacking in self-control, is the top-ranked war recruit. She resents the fact that he is destined to be the one who consumes the Ultimatum Source and saves humanity. She believes herself to be much more deserving of and suited for such a title due to her higher intelligence and composure, and thinks that someone of Dagim’s demeanour cannot be trusted with such high power. She thinks if he is, it will spell doom for their planet, her resentment and worry fueling her involvement in a conspiracy that puts his life at risk. The Fettered: Frederica certainly has a ruthless streak and is willing to break conventional morality if it means doing what she perceives is right. But when it comes to her own moral code, Frederica can only operate within certain guidelines. The times when she sees herself needing to commit an act that goes against her personal moral code, she quickly becomes wracked with guilt and uncharacteristically unconfident, her anxiety getting the better of her. Meaningful Name: The name “Frederica” means “peaceful ruler”. She sees herself as primed to become one should she be given the chance to stand at the top, as opposed to those less suited. But her actions throughout the early parts of the book showcase that, whilst this is her interpretation of herself, it is not necessarily the truth of her being. The Stoic: Frederica is typically inexpressive when it comes to emotions, often portraying a hardened, stone-like face regardless of the situation at hand. Even when Frederica finds herself feeling highly emotional, she keeps her composure, maintaining an image of stoic resolve and control, but for a few microexpressions. Tranquil Fury: She is described as having “a skill for making her pent-up frustration seem measured as opposed to the righteous anger it stemmed from.” Something that the equally headstrong but far more impulsive Dagim is annoyed by during their arguments during meetings. She often comes across as the calmer, clear-thinking, and reasonable of the pair despite being just as stubborn and indignant as him. She’s just far better at concealing it.
