𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐘𝐍 - 𝐉𝐔𝐍𝐆𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐍𝐄-𝐒𝐈 𝐀𝐑𝐆𝐔𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 & 𝐃𝐄𝐁𝐔𝐍𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐅 𝐍𝐈 𝐃𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 (1/2) Although I wasn't initially planning on writing an argument for Nicole, seeing the current consensus on her page has motivated me to do so. I think that Nicole is very evidently on the Ne-Si axis, with Ne and Si as her auxiliary and tertiary functions, respectively. I am currently unsure about which Ji is her dominant function, but will likely come to a conclusion in the near future. Also, I am open to the possibility of her being Ne dominant, but this is less likely due to the strength of her Si. I plan to make this argument primarily about debunking Ni dominance for Nicole and arguing for why she uses Ne-Si instead of Ni-Se. Nicole’s prophetic intuition is far more inclined toward potential and possibilities rather than archetypes and overarching themes that are—on the surface—disconnected from the external physical world. She goes off on tangents, branching off of her ideas rather than tunnel-visioning; her generation of ideas is divergent (indicating Ne) rather than convergent (indicating Ni). > Varka: Just a second. I gotta ask… how relevant is all this history to the task at hand? > Nicole: Well, I mean, it’s… Hmm. Okay, it seems we’ve drifted into irrelevant narrative waters. It’s been a while since I’ve had the chance to speak inside someone’s head. As soon as I started, I lost control, and the words just flowed out like a waterfall… To elaborate on the previous point, the Ni dominant converges their multiple sense perceptions into central abstract themes and ignores the subjective feeling factor engendered by them (which essentially means that they avoid focusing on the sensations that their perceptions ignite within them, skipping straight to their implications instead). Jungian Ni is a very confusing function to navigate, so I’m going to use another Genshin character (Wanderer) who actually DOES use dominant Ni as an example of how the function works. Wanderer, as Scaramouche, synthesizes and converges the negative experiences he has under the overarching theme of ‘betrayal’, an abstract idea that is entirely disconnected from the concrete world. Si dominants link their perceptions and experiences with one another as well, but they do so through concrete sensory elements such as recurring smells or colors rather than themes or ideas. Another thing I mentioned earlier is that Ne is focused on potential and possibilities in the external world, which are rooted in the sensory content absorbed by Si. Nicole is someone who generates possibilities and chases them, noticing past trends and extending their application to the present (Ne assisted by Si). This exact thought process can be seen in the following quote from the Nod Krai archon quest: > Nicole: The fact that they bypassed the false sky and saw the true moons implies that they successfully built a connection between Teyvat and the outside world. Which means, with enough kuuvahki and a sufficiently stable connection, it should be feasible to send one person over the border. Here, Nicole recognizes a past trend exemplified by an event she experienced (Si) and sees potential, possibility, and the implications that arise from it (intuition). It's also an example of divergent thinking (Ne), as she begins at a single point, idea, or event, and then branches off of it and the myriad of possibilities associated with it. Below are a few examples of Nicole’s orientation toward and keenness in regards to potential and alternate possibilities: > Nicole: Divine potential lies within each and every human, and each day I spend among you is more fascinating than the last. > Nicole: Lost knowledge can be relearned over time. Lost power can be regained with training. > Alice: Neither “Columbina” or “Kuutar” is her true name, and she's never really accepted either of them. > Nicole: …Is it also possible that… She has never had a true name? Not at any point in history?
