ENFP argument ENFPs have Ne as the most dominant function and Si as the inferior one. Some votes say INFP because of Te inferiority, but let me explain why I think Lewis is an ENFP. His vivid imaginary really shows his unhealthy use of Ne dom, obviously. Combine Ne with Fi, Lewis feels a void that he keeps avoiding through imagining more and more, the success he didn't get to achieve. "I think it pains him to remember Lewis the cannery worker." ENFPs have inferior Si Inferior Si led to the accident, because he was so out of touch. as described in the line "And then it struck him that the real Lewis was not the one chopping salmon, but the one climbing the steps of a golden Palace." Si users experience the world through familiarity and caution. Meanwhile, Lewis never wrapped his head around his workplace, somewhere he literally went to every day. "He began to forget the world we know." Si would be placed at inferior because he doesn't really need to focus on the small details of work, because working at the cannery was something repetitive. Where at one point Lewis forgot to go home from work, because he was too immersed in his daydream. "Part of Lewis kept sailing on, even when his mother pleaded with him." Te or Si inferior? We can agree that Lewis feels discontent with his current job, and he decides to cope with it in an unhealthy way. INFPs have Si as the Tertiary function, they could somewhat still compare true, real world events to the current situation. The unhealthy Fi-Si loop of past occurance comparison (Si ter) and how unhappy they are about it (Fi dom) while not really doing much about the situation (Te inf) On the other hand, ENFPs Don't even compare anything. they indulge in novelty, something exciting and fictitious. Having Te as the Tertiary function, ENFPs could somewhat get work done, unlike INFPs that have no regard of achieving results. "Lewis was a model employee, his chopping was reliable as ever" (Te) Unhealthy ENFPs use Te as something to release their emotions at, for this case, he continued work until it was past the time. in conclusion... INFPs would pack their stuff up and leave because they want to experience something that would calm their emotions, familiarity. while ENFPs have this weird coping mechanism of daydreaming and avoiding familiarity, just like how Lewis forgot to go home because he was too deep into daydreaming. Doing the past time work was another way of coping because in the work of repetition, it was where he could freely imagine anything he wanted. As mentioned, INFPs find happiness in things that they hold value in, morality and familiarity. ENFPs don't have that happiness in familiarity whatsoever, working at a repetitive job upsets them, so Lewis dreams on and dies because of that.
