A type 8 pursues goals for goals sake. A type 3 will pursue goals with others/society in mind. While people tend to stereotype 3s as status obsessed (like in the case of 3w2s), a 3w4 cares more about achievement and superiority, wanting a “smug” feeling as they sit on top of all the people they just beat. A type 8 would draw satisfaction from the actual achievement, whereas a 3w4, draws satisfaction from being better then others. It’s clear from his backstory that he does things, to prove his superiority to those around them, and even as an adult (contrary to how someone with type 8 would act) he does things with his image as the “dark lord” in mind, wanting to kill Harry so the world would once again fear/remember his power. While type 3s may be thought of as less “dominant” and “alpha” then type 8s, a 3w4 wants the image of a type 8, and will go to extremes to come off more type 8 that the 8s themselves. :P
