Qingyuan is guilty 24/7. . They can get stuck in overplanning and overthinking, pushing away readily available solutions in order to perpetuate a path that requires conscientious (and therefore naturally rewarding) work. Yue Qingyuan takes this path at the expense of Shen Jiu’s desire for immediate answers. He refused to explain why he didn’t come sooner, wanting to shoulder that part of him he view as a weakness. While shen jiu’s outbursts are surface-level cynical, it’s clear shen jiu wants confrontation, not absolution. It’s clear qingyuan is in a perpetual state of paralysis when it comes to his relationship with shen jiu. he compensates by being a steadfast presence in shen jiu’s life, thinking that’s enough and that will always be enough. Low self esteem and feelings of failure aren’t abstractions to him, to him it’s his lifeline.
