Cyril of Alexandria was an Egyptian bishop and theologian, the fifteenth Pope of the Coptic Church from 412 to his death. He is counted among the Church Fathers, was a leading figure in the Christological controversies of the late-4th and 5th centuries, in which he fought against Nestorianism, and was a strong proponent of Theotokos as a title for the Virgin Mary.
