For the longest time I leaned towards ENTP even having paragraphs planned out for analysis, before learning more about Ti. From a Myers four letter standpoint it’s fairly reasonable to say he’s an extrovert, despite him being a total recluse his attitude to his work hints at him deeming it a necessity of what’s most important/mandatory, for general energy he seems most upbeat when out sharing his insights/ideas with others, sure there’s very few side characters, but I think his interaction with Veronica at the very beginning of the film is a reflection of his urge to socialise he’s been neglecting, also stems away from the INTP stereotype of being awkward. Seth seems very casual and comfortable socially. Sure, this is very much a stereotype and obviously introverts can be socially swift too but I’d consider the 16p test stereotypical by definition given it doesn’t account for cognitive functions so I’m basing it a lot on likelihood here. Speaking of the functions, let’s dive into the actual important part. Ti - I’ve come to find his dominant Ti is very obvious. Lives a lifestyle of constant breakdowns of complex systems to identify how they work for his own intellectual digestion. Other than the end goal of showcasing his work to the world, he hardly has much of an urge to utilise his current understandings to the outside world / Te. Extremely independent and without a doubt a natural problem solver who spends almost all of his time alone analysing data. His reaction to finding out he’s being recorded on a tape when he first shows his work to Veronica is a good indication of Ti > Te. I think a Te user would be much more keen on having their work published sooner to ensure a framework of success. Ne - The whole mission of him aspiring to revolutionise the world screams Ne-Si. Ne scans the external environment with a lens for what could be, “What If” forming relation from even seemingly mundane things leading to, Possibilities, Ideas, Concepts. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” a very Si quote is likely an expression Seth would disagree heavily on. Seth sees a world with transport, it works but it could be better, given people like him who suffer from motion sickness etc. this simple mundane trivial thing leads to brainstorming. His Ne is also demonstrated in how he sometimes draws connections from seemingly unrelated things, whenever I think of his Ne the first thing I think of is the scene where him and and Veronica have sex for the first time, Veronica : *Biting Seth* “It’s the flesh. It just makes you crazy”. Seth gazes up getting the idea to experiment on a steak. Just from an off hand comment Seth makes teleporting living things possible from a sexual comment of all things. Ne makes connections between seemingly unrelated things as if everything is on a spider web of relation. His Ne collects concepts and aids Ti to perfect them as shown in his various experiments. The plasma pool monologue as well as the coffee shop scene really radiate the chaotic nature of Ne as well. Yes, these scenes took place after he got ported but the behavioural side effects hadn’t really kicked in at that that point. Si - His disregard for details is what led to his tragic demise but I think his Si is decent enough to not be inferior, given he’s said to have been working on the tele pods for six years we can assume he’s stuck to the same predictable routine of “don’t get out much” for that time, I can’t imagine a Ne dom being able to commit to one goal for that long. Si gives the gift of trial and error and the knack to learn from past setbacks to perfect an ordeal. Having five sets of the same clothes lined up based on the lessons from Einstein shows an organised flare. This gives me the impression Seth can very easily follow a consistent routine which in comparison to a Ne dom is a constant battle. Fe - His Fe seems well developed tbh based on his outgoing, goofy and charismatic persona. Wanting to untie the world through his work and improve human life for the better shows a care for society at least. Though even then you can see it shine as his weakest function when he sometimes disregards one’s emotions in favour of reaching his ultimate goal. Like when he Spites Veronica on missing out on him teleporting himself based on an assumption without seeming to consider where she may be coming from. Notable examples of him failing to read the emotional atmosphere are when he forcefully takes Veronica as well as Tawny to be ported. His anger afterwards shows an inability to to be open to others perspectives when his internal logic (Ti) has reached a conclusion. He’s confused as to why people can’t see what he sees from a logical point of view. Shouldn’t they? Now the above moments are scenes where he’s under the influence, already been ported, but in my opinion it amplifies the inferior function as opposed to take away/add which happens at the end when he’s clinging on to the last thread of his humanity. Love this film.
