chapter 186 she's definitely gut triad and she's always worrying over others I should've expected it from this series but the "resolution" between her and her student, who just so happens to be teaching at chidori, while they have never seen each other at least once in those 10 years is such a huge plothole. I could chalk it up to a difference in schedules since Chigusa did only start 2 years ago but surely the other teachers should've noticed Toki-sensei due to her diligence and constant surveillance over Kikyo. If not the teachers then the students which is exactly what happened with Rintaro's group. Goofy plotline like while it's plausible, it's way too convenient and the resolution feels "cheap" as if you have to believe it, as if it was a mandate from heaven. I hate stories like that. It's also too flowery like do people seriously cry? Insane levels of guilt like she could've reached out first. Chigusa has next level delusions of self-pity, projecting all of those expectations on Toki-sensei while blaming herself over nothing. It worked the first time with Subaru but there was literally no build up. It's like the author just wanted to justify why the teacher is like that so that everyone has a happy ending. That resolve that the Kikyo girls, Madoka and Subaru in particular, feels wasted. Nothing wrong with Toki herself but it's moreso that the Chigusa plot is full of bs. It's not a character-driven story, it's a pity party for the side characters that come out of nowhere. Like seriously, changing a maiden name so that no one knows who she was? Would anyone have recognized Chigusa Miwa regardless? Zero build up. Chigusa Miwa had no relevance to the plot in the past 150 chapters. No context clues, not even a hint of them sharing the same personality with Matsukasa Miwa Chigusa Miwa only exists to facilitate Toki-sensei's past. A literal plot device for a plot device. Likewise, Kaoruko doesn't confront Toki-sensei with an argument; she confronts her with "Idealism." I find this to be "sickening" because it puts the "burden of guilt" entirely on the person with the trauma (Toki or Subaru) while Kaoruko remains the "pure" observer who simply grants absolution. I don't blame Kaoruko, as she is fundamentally pure but it's precisely because she IS pure that the other xharacts don't have their own agency, their own identity and their own growth. Both Subaru and Rintaro haven't grown. They've left their old shells but that's about it. I'm not accusing Kaoruko of being a source of toxic positivity (ahem, Steven Universe) either since she just quietly accepts it for the most part, but the fact that others are so heavily burdened by their own feelings and that Kaoruko just magically cheers them up to be more positive removes the weight of those feelings. Subaru literally saw Kaoruko as her savior. It's parasitic. Kaoruko just wants everyone to get along, which I do too, but the resolution is forced. She, for better or for worse, robs them of their independence just for her forgiveness. The dynamic is way worse between Chigusa and Toki sensei. She was a ball of sunshine and a star student but now she's just a teacher who had zero relevance to the plot until now? Then cries on the spot? If Chigusa is begging Toki sensei to not let her past define her, then the same should've been said for her and her regrets towards her. At the same time, those years of guilt can't just disappear now. That's way too selfish.
