Biografia
Mithras (Latin: Mithras; also known as Mithra in Iranian contexts) is the central deity of Mithraism, also known as the Mithraic mysteries—a Roman mystery religion that flourished from the late 1st to the 4th century CE. He is primarily the god of covenants, contracts, oaths, and friendship (derived from the Proto-Indo-Iranian root mitra, meaning “that which binds”), and is also associated with light, truth, justice, fortresses and strongholds, and the sun. In Roman worship, Mithras is frequently identified with Sol Invictus (the Unconquered Sun) and linked to loyalty, cosmic order, renewal, and victory over chaos. He also embodies martial qualities as a protector and warrior against the forces of darkness and evil. A foreign deity to the Roman pantheon, Mithras was imported from ancient Persia—or more broadly the Iranian/Zoroastrian cultural sphere—and became particularly popular among Roman soldiers, merchants, and administrators from the 1st to the 4th century CE.
