Zanka is not an e5. Necessary traits like existential detachment, delayed action, avarice, etc are absent from him. He is a standoffish introvert by nature, but still noticeably assertive and very active in the world and not really detached from... most things, I'd say. E5 is not a good fit. I'm still not 100% on what I would type him as, but after rereading Gachiakuta several times (it's up to chapter 88 as of this comment), I think the most suitable enneatype for him is e1, and specifically so1. Just to start, you should not type characters purely by IVs alone, but Zanka is heavily neurotic regarding the social instinct and I think this is very evident. The realm of society, hierarchy, self-image, etc is the area of the most insecurity for Zanka, the one that he is attempting to compensate for the most, so he's most likely a social subtype. Zanka, as far as we've seen, shares the childhood wound of e1. (Naranjo) "It is easy to trace back the motivation to strive hard in the perfectionist to an early experience of affective dissatisfaction so that seeking to be a better person represents a hope of gaining more approval or closeness from one of the parents. Later in life, however, such striving also takes on a competitive implication, as if saying to father or mother: “I will be better than you and rise beyond your capacity to evaluate me: I will show you!”: a vindictive turn in which there is not only in success a hope but also a claim and a vindictive denigration." In his first flashback, Zanka is shown to come from a prestigious & strict upbringing with a lot of expectation placed on him to perform well and become a Hell Guard like his siblings. You can see that this upbringing gave him a sense of superiority over his peers. (Zanka) "Real talk, do not put me on the same level as these chumps. They have no idea how hard I work when there ain't nobody lookin'. Just you watch. I'll take first place, and you won't even see me break a sweat." The relationship he currently has with his family isn't clear yet, but we can assume that he's estranged since his sister refuses to speak to him (oof), and he failed to become a Hell Guard since he "defected" to join the cleaners, which seem to have a strained relationship with the Hell Guard. Zanka has an aggressive attitude towards asserting his "averageness," the averageness of his jinki (which he was judged harshly for choosing), the fact that he can be a skilled and competent fighter despite the simplicity of himself and his stick, and to me this is fitting with a vindictive desire to rise above the standards & expectations set in his early life. It fits well with the e1 childhood. His insistence on being an "average joe" when faced with characters he sees as naturally talented and stronger than him may seem like self-devaluation at first, but it's actually a cryptic expression of the sense of superiority he feels over others, enhanced by encouragement from Enjin who told him to "surpass genius" as an average guy. Zanka essentially believes that he is exceptional in how unexceptional he is. He's actually incredibly full of himself. Zanka fits all of the social 1 traits listed in 27 Personalities. He is very independent, insistent on improving himself without other people's help or "charity," a huge perfectionist with a never-ending need to improve himself, very demanding on himself and others, as well as possessing the characteristic intellectual orientation of so1. I'll end this part of my very rough-draft-esque comment with a couple of quotes from the same book on so1 that I think are specifically befitting of Zanka's character so far, and self-explanatory as to how they fit him: (Naranjo) "Their attitudes and expressions tend towards seriousness and circumspection. It shows controlled coldness, a subtle smile and a certain kind of gentleness, until it reaches an aristocratic superiority that can lead to indignation. It tends to show calm and control. In the activities that produce the greatest tension, anger becomes a diffuse demand that leads to the obsessive desire to improve and correct, especially the other, but also himself. Anger hides, remains in the background and becomes a push to improve, a pretension and control of oneself and others. Thus, the goal becomes seen as nobler: to do things better, to be better." (Naranjo) "The social subtype is the most intellectual of the three subtypes of E1 and is often a great reasoner. Claudio Naranjo affirms: “Hides rage with imperturbability”. And then he adds: “Aristocratic, elegant, circumspect. Underneath is the fire.”"
