Gold Ship is a racehorse who competed in the 2010s. He is currently retired from racing and is now a stud horse. He's garnered fans for both his strength as a racer and his notably eccentric behavior. One of Gold Ship's most infamous episodes took place at the 2015 Takarazuka Kinen. Considered the favorite to win the race, 12.1 billion yen in racing bets were placed on him. However, Gold Ship reared up just as the gates opened, causing him to fall behind to an insurmountable degree, and he ultimately place in 15th out of sixteen. The episode is commonly referred to as the "12 Billion Yen Incident," or "12.1 Billion Rear" because of the quantity of wagered money lost. At that moment the incident occurred, commentator Junko Hosoe shouted twice out of surprise. When the incident was recreated in the Umamusume anime, Hosoe, playing herself as commentator, recreated her surprised shouts.
