Many of the terms in fighting games can have rather fluid definitions. It can take one new character, one new technique, or some other situation to change them up. The term "footsie" is complicated already as different people apply it to different situations. Most of the time, it usually involves players who fight for control of space in the middle of the screen, rather than getting up close like grapplers or staying away like zoners. Any character with strong poking attacks is good at pulling off footsies, like Street Fighter's Cammy, or most of the cast in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. Others, like Karin from Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter 5, seem designed for footsies. Her moves are particularly strong at mid-range, from chain specials that push the opponent back, to throws and setups that leave them vulnerable in mid-range, midair space. Other footsie fanatics include Street Fighter's Luke, King of Fighters' Benimaru, and Kilik in SoulCalibur.
