marcel is charming, arrogant and ambitious. he approaches all situations with flair and wants to be seen as the best. he has an effortless charisma and charm that makes it easy for him to get things from other people and vampires. at his best, marcel is genuinely caring and puts the needs of others above his own. it can be seen through his relationship with davina that he wants the best for her and he sees her as being part of his family. at his worst, marcel becomes consumed with wanting to win. he sometimes can't see past his initial goal and will do anything to try and achieve his desires, even if it will hurt those he loves. marcel had a difficult childhood as a slave until he was taken in by the mikaelsons after klaus witnessed his strength when standing up to his abuse. as soon as he was with the mikaelsons it can be seen that he wanted to prove himself to them. he especially wanted to gain the admiration of klaus as he was his father figure and thought he would be able to do this through his achievements. he was driven to learn as much as he could from the family as he saw them as being much more refined than his former life and he greatly enjoyed learning the piano and reading with elijah. marcel continues to want the approval of others throughout the series. when the mikaelsons return to new orleans it can be seen that marcel has branded the town with the mikaelson symbol and taken it as his own. he has a great love for the mikaelsons but is very threatened when they return as he believes new orleans is his town and he is the one that should be running it. this leads to his adversial relationship with klaus in trying to retain his power and control over the vampires and town. marcel has always had a great love for rebekah and shows that he wants to spend his life with her. their relationship has elements of both healthy and unhealthy 3 traits from marcel. he is willing to leave rebekah to further his success and status but as the series finishes he wants-

Marcellus "Marcel" Gerard is a main character on The Originals. He was initially made out to be the main antagonist of the series during the early episodes of the first season before it was revealed that he is actually a caring vampire with no ill intention, who was simply trying to protect Davina Claire, a young witch whose imposing hatred toward her coven served to help enforce his rule in the French Quarter. Marcel is the adoptive son and former protégé of Niklaus Mikaelson, who turned him into a vampire. He is therefore by extension the adoptive brother of Hope Mikaelson and father figure and protector of Davina Claire. He is also a close friend and confidante of Josh. In the episode Give 'Em Hell Kid, he became an Upgraded Original Vampire after taking Lucien's serum, and in The Bloody Crown, took over as New Orleans' ruler, effectively succeeding the Mikaelsons.
