Absolute monster of a man. I know people will say it’s senatorial propaganda, but people will say the same of people like Hitler, Stalin, and maybe even Epstein in the future. The fact is that we modern people think we know better than the ancient historians. But anyway, what about his character. He was a military authoritarian who fell in love with the Roman regime and his life as a blue blooded aristocrat. He was into playing mind games and governing from afar, letting Sejanus wash the city with blood. To me he seems like a complicated character. One which loves duty and hierarchy, but scorns humanity. He fell in love with pleasure and indulged in the most horrific of vices. He killed Caligula’s family and made him live with him on his little island where he was ritualistically abuse the boy. In my opinion, while Caligula may have had bad traits in him, he shows signs of PTSD and I feel like he is a direct reflection of Tiberius. Tiberius the LSI enabled Caligula the EIE to take part in his most dark desires. Tiberius is the underdog that you’ll root for in the beginning of the story, but by the end, you hope his death with be painful.
