Kowloon Walled City: The former Hong Kong residential area where the protagonists live has been reported by local residents to be demolished. As the story progresses, Itachi explains that there are three distinct periods of Kowloon Walled City. The Kowloon Walled City at the beginning of the story appears to be a virtual illusion, visible only to some former residents and a few outsiders. Outsiders actually see the ruined Second Kowloon Walled City. The special condition for seeing this illusion is to "feel regret for a particular event or memory in life" and enter it. Furthermore, one must not eat the food produced within the illusion, or it will devour them.
