i used to think that him taking the crying girl was out of sympathy and love, but now i realized that even tho he might’ve felt some sort of sadness towards her cal used that opportunity to get himself onto the boat. i mean, we don’t ever really see him with the child ever again after the ship had sunk, if he had truly cared for her he would’ve adopted her. he’s the definition of an enneagram 3 since he was willing to control rose for status and when she humiliated him cal would go out of his way to try & murder both her and jack
