The story revolves around the encounter between Víctor and Edward, two men scarred by their traumas, who, through their interactions, are forced to confront what they have repressed for years. Víctor is a musician and writer, an alcoholic, caught in the tension between causal determinism and his yearning for freedom. To survive, he suppresses his unconscious and clings to an ideology of potential freedom that allows him to believe in the possibility of choice. Edward, on the other hand, is a bookseller and schizotypal. He represses his impulses and his humanity, taking refuge in a megalomaniacal worldview known as fatalistic theomania—a belief in absolute predestination and the denial of free will.
