Midge is E9 > E6 There's none of the SO6's coldness, rigidity, orientation to an ideology, or excessive intellectual control of behavior in Midge. According to Maitri, "To a Social Six, fulfilling what she sees as her social role dutifully is the only way to be. She attempts to resolve her social insecurity by giving authority to a belief, a group, or a leader whom she considers more powerful, and becoming faithful, deferential, accommodating, malleable, and obedient to it or him. She is loyal, devoted, even fawning and obsequious in the carrying out of her mission on behalf of the authority, whatever she considers that to be. Her passion of fear appears here as being afraid of crossing her authority figure and being afraid of breaking social norms and obligations." Midge only has superficial E6 traits like wanting to follow rules and caring about safety. She doesn't display the actual fear passion. According to Naranjo, "Fear requires being on guard, giving of oneself is feared. There is fear of being tricked, subjugated, humiliated, controlled. This also leads to self-control and to the inhibition of the flow of life in view of an excessive need for protection." Midge is never shown to be suspicious, calculating, or afraid of being controlled. While Midge is too undeveloped of a character to fit the passion of any enneatype in its entirety, she does fit E9 better than E6. All in all, she is far too phlegmatic, cheerful, and casual of a character to be E6, a highly melancholic and rigid type. Naranjo describes E9 as, "This is a dispassionate, phlegmatic character, though the switching off of his or her personal desires frequently coincides with a jovial, gregarious disposition." Midge has a calm, sunny temperament and is shown to like a calm, disturbance free environment where she can engage in soothing, repetitive activities. This is very akin to a 9's need to maintain internal and environmental homeostasis and robotic habit-boundedness. She's also highly distractible, which is another aspect of the E9 trait structure. According to Naranjo, "That a perturbation of consciousness is involved in these various obscurations seems confirmed in the fact that enneatype nine people describe themselves as distractible, confused...The nature of their attention problem seems to be a difficulty of concentration—which causes awareness to escape from the center of the experience realm toward its periphery." Midge routinely displays distractibility. This is more evident than ever in the "Mall Mayhem" episode. Distractibility is not a trait you'd find in a 6, as E6 is always on guard. As for subtypes, SX9 makes the most sense, considering that she fits much of the trait structure, including being averse to change, docile, hyperactive, and imaginative. She also has what could be considered a symbiotic confluence with Barbie, considering her insistence on being Barbie's number one BFF and moving to Malibu just to be around Barbie. She also has no qualms about changing her entire appearance just to attract Ryan. According to Maitri, "Sexual Nines are driven by a desire for the love of another and for total union, which appears to them as the key to their happiness. Total merging with another is seen by Sexual Nines to be what they need to be whole. They tend to merge easily with others, losing touch with themselves in the process. This substitution of another for what they really need to merge with—their essential nature—is the heart of a Sexual Nine’s passion of laziness."
