I think I have a better way of explaining it now, so here’s my perspective. I understand why some people are hesitant about ENTP 8, but I think a lot of the disagreement comes from treating E8 as if it automatically means Se dom. What stands out to me is that T8 is about the motivation to stay independent, resist being controlled, and take charge of situations. MBTI, on the other hand, explains how someone goes about doing that. An ENTP 8 doesn’t have to rush into every situation or rely on physical force. They can challenge people through ideas, arguments, strategy, and quick thinking instead. Rather than overpowering others physically, they often dominate conversations, expose weaknesses in logic, and keep control by staying mentally ahead. Their Ne is constantly looking for new possibilities and opportunities, while Ti analyzes situations to find the smartest approach. If they decide to confront someone, it’s usually because they believe it’s the most effective way to maintain their independence or achieve their goal, not simply because they’re impulsive. This is why I don’t think “E8 = Se” is a good argument. A persons cognitive functions shape how they express their core motivation, but they don’t replace the motivation itself. So if a character consistently shows the core T8 drive for autonomy, strength, and resisting control while approaching problems in a Ti Ne way, then ENTP 8 is a perfectly reasonable interpretation.
