"Gold and jewels can be replaced, but memories can not" That is why the thief Honeulind is so dangerous, it takes away your most precious moments for itself. Well, it just happens that it wanted to have a "perfect" life, so, he reasoned that the only way to do it would be to go to the past and help itself avoid taking bad decisions or preventing itself from unwanted events. But it proved to be useless, for it still had memory of those negative things that tormented it's vision of a flawless life. Oblivion -that which makes everyone that has a memory forget- to allow it to steal the memories of others and make them their own, that way it would have the perfect life, even if it was only in it's head. Oblivion grows stronger each time Honeulind takes a memory away and exhanges it for one of his own memories, feeding with this last one the apetite of Oblivion. Honeulind can, however, simply send memories to Oblivion, but because it's goal is to recollect the best memories for himself.
