He's a counterphobic 6. After listening to his lines in the game and analyzing the conditions in which he grew up (which, by the way, also formed his subsequent beliefs), he came to believe that he can ensure his safety and eradicate his feelings of helplessness only through greater force and intimidation. Maintaining order within his trials is important to him because chaos means others might get out of his control, which means he will no longer be in a position of authority and punishing hand, and therefore will no longer feel safe. There is the line in the game where he directly states that he would give up his authority if he were given a warm, peaceful (= SECURE) place from which he could never escape. But the paradox is that he will always seek an external threat, no matter whether it makes sense or not. (Sx6s also like to stick to a specific path for a sense of stability, and so they often choose concrete and pragmatic ideologies. This may explain Coyle's political views and past..😬) + in unused lines, he talks about how he was very afraid of being killed by lightning when he was a child, but as he grew up, he turned electricity into a literal part of his personality. (very sx6) The main difference between sx1 and sx6 is that sx1s are firmly convinced of everything they do, while sx6s do what they do to avoid being vulnerable. Leland, for example, readily accepts bribes, which is very at odds with the moral steadfastness of sx1. Because it was never about his moral principles. It was about his intimidating image, about the fact that he holds the reins of power in his own hands because he doesn't want anyone to end up higher up in the hierarchy than him, thereby taking away his ability to control the situation and the people around him. Leland Coyle is one of the antagonists in The Outlast Trials. He is a corrupt and delusional police officer with a distorted notion of the law, who enjoys electrocuting and sexually assaulting people with his shock baton.
