Kanata is honestly not an easy character to type. He’s emotional, reactive, prideful, extremely attached to Nayuta, and very practical at the same time. I used to lean toward ISTP 8w9 because of his literal, action-oriented way of dealing with problems, but the more I look at him, the more ISFP 6w5 makes sense. What changed my mind is that I was probably putting too much weight on his practicality. Being practical and concrete isn’t exclusive to Ti; Kanata is also a Se user, and his practicality can easily coexist with Fi. What stands out more to me now is how personal his priorities are. So much of what he does comes back to Nayuta, their life together, and the things that matter to him. It’s less “What is objectively logical?” and more “This matters to me, so what can I do about it?” His emotional reactivity also feels important. Kanata gets angry, defensive, prideful, and easily baited, especially when something touches a personal nerve. He can absolutely react emotionally first and only then figure out what to do. I don’t think his ability to come up with practical solutions afterward means the emotion wasn’t driving the initial reaction. The 6w5 interpretation also explains his distrust and protectiveness really well. Kanata grew up surrounded by people he couldn’t rely on, while Nayuta became the person he trusted most. When that sense of security is threatened, he doesn’t necessarily become timid—he becomes aggressive and defensive. That can make him look very 8-ish from the outside, while the underlying motivation can still be fear, attachment, and the need to protect what he trusts. So I still get the ISTP 8w9, but I currently prefer ISFP 6w5. It lets Kanata be emotional, reactive, deeply personal, and still extremely practical without having to explain away any of those traits. He is not a soft or stereotypically artistic ISFP either. He can still be the same prideful, short-tempered menace who gets baited “WHO SAID I WAS RUNNING AWAY?!” and then immediately gets dragged into solving the problem.
