This Link is, in my opinion, the best Link and possibly, possibly the best character of the whole series. First of all, the game starts by showing Link as a rather lazy, sensitive person. Zelda needs to act as his alarm clock. He shares a close bond with his Loftwing companion, and of course has a deep relationship with Zelda. Link is also shown to weak to stand up for himself. Gropes and the gang relentlessly bully him. He can be unsure of himself in dialogue options. We can all relate to these. Everything Link is in the exposition shows him as a perfectly normal guy. Then the black tornado stormed. It swept Zelda below the clouds, meaning certain death, and he was pummeled into Skyloft. After revelations of Hylia’s prophecy, Link takes up the charge and sets out to save his loved one from the abyssal unknown. He doesn’t fit into the hero’s role immediately. As soon as he reaches the Surface, he hallucinates The Imprisoned and shudders at the very thought of it. Despite his terror, however, he presses on, helping those in need along the way. He chases Zelda down, only to be a couple steps behind with numerous demons in his path. Including the demon lord Ghirahim. A powerful being who sees Link nothing more than a flea. He was terrified the first time he saw the demon lord. Shaking as Ghirahim introduced himself. Again, despite his fears, Link drew his sword to protect Zelda. As the journey continues, Link was too late to protect Zelda from capture in Eldon Volcano. Even though he tried his best and brave many demons, Link still doesn’t fit the role as the goddess’ hero. Ashamed of his failure, he sets to redeem himself by meeting up with his beloved in Lanayru Desert. As he finally reaches her, Ghirahim struck again. Instead of freezing, Link leaps in between the demon lord and friends. This is the first time we see Link’s maturity into the hero of legend. Then his first true test starts. The Imprisoned, the nightmare of his life, is unleashed. Link rushes to the pit to face it. The pair lock gazes, then the monster roars. After a fierce battle, Link won. The boy from the beginning has grown more to a hero. As the adventure continues, he masters the goddesses’ virtues of courage, wisdom, and power. Each time becoming more and more hero like. Link is tested again by facing Ghirahim and The Imprisoned again. After more convincingly beating both again, he finally gets his prize: being with Zelda again. This is where he learns he was forged for this purpose: to fight the forces of evil alone for his beloved: the goddess herself. He accepts his purpose and with the fully formed True Master Sword, he embarks on completing Hylia’s plan: reunite the Triforce and wish for Demise’s, the demon king, end. In order to do so, he must complete the dragons’ song and be fully balanced in courage, wisdom, and power. For me, the Eldin quest is the most important. Sure, Link has matured, but he relies on his sword and equipment. What if they disappear? Eldin answers that. Link is truly alone, imprisoned, on the brink of death. Through the lessons of his journey, he covertly takes down a whole army of demons WITH HIS BARE HANDS!!! Link is obviously the hero now. This is where everything has lead to. Link gets the Triforce. It is vital to note: the Triforce didn’t just appear. Link had to get every piece and prove himself worthy of that power. No other being has ever done this. Not even Ganondorf or other Link or Zelda incarnations. Ganon was able to only because he manipulated Triforce bearers, not the Triforce itself, to help him reform it. Only this Link has truly earned the full might of the Triforce. It is also important to note that he has now easily become the most powerful Link ever. He has the most powerful Master Sword and the full Triforce, and has perfectly mastered the goddesses’ three virtues. Fierce Deity Link and any Ganondorf would fold like paper in a fight against him now. After a huge plot twist. Demise returns anyway. By fighting through a whole demonic legion, Link faces Demise. The demon king is described to have conquered time itself. He is a god, the true rival to Hylia. Now the only thing standing between him and victory is Link. After a most legendary battle, Link vanquished Demise. Freeing Zelda and saving everything from Demise’s grasp. Link is truly the hero of legend who has slain the dark god. This is why I love this Link. He goes from not waking up in the morning to virtually becoming a god himself. We see him struggle and fail, but he always presses on. Calling his journey near impossible would be an understatement believe it or not. No other Link, even OoT, ALTTP, or TOTK had to face these challenges. Neither have they reached SS Link’s power level. Any of their final bosses would be a miniboss for this Link. Link has also not lost his good traits from the beginning. He is still a caring, loving man. That is why he is the best. He conquered all, but never lost his humanity.
