This butterfly was the embodiment of Ne. Chaotic, perceptive, and loosely connected. The "listen, listen" to signify having something it intends to say. Most of the message were loosely connected metaphors and lyrics. But then they randomly convey a prophecy only to go right back to madness. I think this was intended to give the butterfly a paradoxical wisdom given its former life as a caterpillar, but with a limited attention span due to the fragility and temporary nature of its adult existence. I think it was intended to give an insect worse conversation skills than say, a one-eyed cat that you see later in the movie. One could argue that the butterfly exhibited an Fe desire to share the story of the Red Bull to the last Unicorn. It was the Butterfly who gave the Unicorn the mission.
