What personality type is Mari? Mari is an ENFP personality type in MBTI, 7w8 - SX7 - 728 in Enneagram, SLUEN in Big 5, IEE in Socionics.
I'm absolutely convinced that Mari is only typed as a sensor because she's widely disliked by the community, just as Tai and Shauna are assumed to be N types. Typing her as an sx8 likewise seems to have no real backing beyond "Mari bad." And while I do find her insufferable, I fail to see how a character repeatedly characterized as a sarcastic critic (not a leader) prone to magical thinking is seen as an example of Se/e8. Throughout all three seasons, there isn’t a single attempt at usurping power, social climbing, or even a vague indication that Mari aspires to be in a position of authority or relative privilege. In fact, we see the opposite when she becomes one of Lottie’s first and most avid followers. She is prone to boredom and avoids serious confrontations, as we shown in S3 with her interactions with Coach Scott, where she tries (unsuccessfully) to get on his good side. When that fails, she flees and then attempts to lie about her whereabouts rather than seeking revenge. Even during the trial, she remains unsure about Coach Ben despite being held captive and doesn’t exhibit the level of outrage you’d expect from an e8 after having their personal autonomy limited in such a way. She lacks motivation and willpower and is presented as comparatively lazy, even in a life-or-death situation. Even traits that were apparent before S3, like being talkative, self-important, impertinent, and nosy, align much more closely with sx7 than sx8. She’s interested in conflict and stimulation, not control, and her quips are often low stakes rather than genuine personal attacks. They all result in zero personal gain. She’s all bark, no bite, and her interactions with Shauna this season made that even more apparent. Just because she’s rude doesn’t mean she’s an sx8. Likewise, just because you don’t like her doesn’t mean she’s a sensor. This is just a symptom of a larger issue where "bad" characters are labelled e8 ESxP despite not having any of the traits associated with the type.
