I believe that Naofumi is an INTP. The anime doesn't reflect on his thought processes as much as the manga/light novel does. My first reason would be that he seems to be recessive of (Se). He doesn't like to drink alcohol (despite having an insanely high tolerance for it), isn't that good at managing tools (i.e. he had to undergo expensive training to learn how to craft potions and accessories, and learn how the "copy item" skill from the other heroes), and is oblivious to a woman's flirting (In the light novel, Raphtalia stripped herself naked and asked him what he thought of her body he didn't seem to care). He also doesn't lash out as much as a normal ISTP protagonist does (compared to the likes of Kazuma, Guts, Spike, etc.). Even in the beginning, when the other heroes made fun of him for having a shield (saying that he was "weak" and a "loser"), he didn't get angry at them; he only does so when someone close to him is threatened or hurt (which is more Fe than Se). Another reason would be that he has a job as a merchant. He's more interested in thinking of ways to earn money and/or improve the economic states of villages then adventuring (Ne seeks novelty, whereas Se seeks physical thrills). Even during the spirit tortoise arc, he was shown to be able to organize people and lead soldiers effectively; without training, I might add. An ISTP can be a good to great leader, true, but an ISTP would have to have the experience to do so. This is my opinion. Anyone can disagree.

Naofumi Iwatani is the main protagonist of The Rising of the Shield Hero series. He is summoned to another world to serve as the Shield Hero, one of the Four Legendary Heroes. Naofumi was initially an exceedingly trusting and positive person - excited about being summoned as a hero. However, his mentality abruptly changed after Malty S Melromarc, the princess of Melromarc, betrayed and framed him. Being left near-penniless, falsely accused as a criminal, and hated by nearly everyone, Naofumi became extremely distrustful towards everyone and cynical about life. He could not trust anyone and started to assume that others were trying to get something from him. The result of the Princess's betrayal has left him in an almost permanent state of anger and hostility, which he masks behind a calm and level-headed personality. This mentality bites him back as he unknowingly pushes away genuine supporters of the Shield Hero and Siltvelt envoys.
