[ 1 / 2 ] 𝐀𝐢 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐨: 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 > 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 I am glad that there is a general consensus regarding Ai’s dominant function. She is also a clear EF type to my eyes and overall leads with rationality over irrationality. But, even though her rational function is clear to the voters on this page, it seems like some people are mistaking Ni usage with some of the aspects of her character. I'm here to clarify some things regarding this and to talk about my reasoning to type her as a sensor and not an intuitive; specifically, EF(S) over EF(N), which translates in 4 Letter Type to ESFJ over ENFJ. First, we need to clarify what is sensing and intuition in Jungian terms. This dichotomy revolves around the perception style of a person (i.e. the way they perceive the world around them, how they understand the environment they see themselves involved, the relation they establish with outer objects). Intuition, in one hand, is defined as a more abstract way of understanding the outer world. It is interested in the underlying patterns that could reside behind outer objects and the possibilities that lie underneath them. By that perspective, the relation that an intuitive user establishes with an outer object is defined by things that go beyond it. That is why we say that intuitives are overall interested in 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 and tend to shy away with the concrete reality. As Daryl Sharp states in 𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑇𝑦𝑝𝑒𝑠: 𝐽𝑢𝑛𝑔'𝑠 𝑀𝑜𝑑𝑒𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝑇𝑦𝑝𝑜𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑦: › ❝The primary purpose of intuition is to perceive aspects of the world that are not apprehended by the other functions. Intuition is like a sixth sense that "sees" something not actually there❞. Sensing, in the other hand, is defined as a more concrete way of understanding the outer world. It is interested in the information that resides in the immediate reality and in the tangible aspects of it. By that perspective, the relation that a sensor user establishes with an outer object is defined by things that not go beyond it, but instead his cognition is constantly revolving around it and motivated by it. That is why we say that sensors are overall interested in the 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 of reality and tend to shy away from the abstract aspects of it. According to Carl Jung in 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒕𝒚𝒑𝒆𝒔: › ❝Sensation is a hindrance to clear, unbiased, naive perception; its intrusive sensory stimuli direct attention to the physical surface, to the very things round and beyond which intuition tries to peer. ... [The intuitive] does have sensations, of course, but he is not guided by them as such; he uses them merely as starting-points for his perceptions❞. Intuition is related, then, to imagination, abstraction, symbolisms and imagery. When we state that a certain character or person is an intuitive type, we mainly are stating that this person in their way of perceiving the world goes BEYOND outer objects and is mainly motivated by what is not related with the outer world. Instead, their interest has to be fundamentally concentrated in the reflections and flow of consciousness that, although it may be motivated by a concrete object, goes beyond it and manages to make diverse connections that are not taken for granted in concreteness. That is why we can say that people who prefer intuition are less connected to immediate reality than those who prefer sensation. Taking that to consideration, Ai Hoshino’s construction of character heavily relies on her perception of the outer world and the immediate concrete relation she establishes with it. No, she is not a person who goes beyond the outer object. Instead, she needs to put all of her attention to the immediate perception and that is what motivates her way of acting and, overall, molds her personality. Her cultivation of lies and the work of an idol needs to put attention to concrete details, not metaphysical data itself, which is not something we see her doing often. Her focus is, instead, in what is immediately in front of her eyes and the immediate reality she keeps relating to. She is realistic, concrete and simply believes what she observes. All of her perception seems to rely around the objects of her immediate reality and not on what goes beyond them. Not only that, but this ability of her seems to be what she concentrates more when going to work as an idol. We know that most of what we know about her has to do with that job: she doesn’t have any other family than her daughter and son or any close friends. All of her life revolves around this job, which, again, totally molds her personality and the image she projects onto others.
