Maurice is a main character in All Hail King Julien. He is a male Aye-Aye Lemur, the lifelong best friend of King Julien and his Royal Advisor. A lone baby Maurice was discovered by a very young then Prince Julien in the Aye Aye Kingdom and they immediately bonded, causing Maurice to subsequently taken by Princess Julienne and Prince Barty (Julien's parents) to the Lemur Kingdom to be raised with their son. Maurice is shown to be wise, logical and considerate and often the voice of reason amongst King Julien XIII and his cortege.
