Personality

What personality type is Marty Armstrong? Marty Armstrong is an ISTJ personality type in MBTI, 8w7 - sp/so - in Enneagram, RLUEN in Big 5, SLI in Socionics.

An analysis of Marty's character given what we already know from LISA: The First and LISA: The Painful. It'll obviously contain spoilers. In terms of MBTI, I was contemplating typing him as ISTP or ISFP as opposed to ISTJ. However, throughout the series he shows a lot of Si (fixation on the past), Te (mostly used in tandem with his e8 behavior), and Fi (His arc in The Painful, as well as his religiousness in The First, which he uses to 'redeem' himself). I can't see any Ni in him, though I can see Se (his fixation upon physical pleasures, such as alcohol). His mastery over seeing real opportunities (Ne) gets developed when he's of very old age in The Painful, and he wants to move on from the past by taking care of Buddy - though in a different way than Brad (his approach is war more gentle). Speaking of E8 behavior, I think he is a sp/sx type (he's not as externally-focused to be a sx/sp), and his wing is unclear - arguments can be made both for 8w7 and 8w9, and I'll go with 8w7 for variety's sake. He shows a clear integration to a 2, especially during The First's "Marty" VHS - where he's shown as a good and kind father, as well as his "redemption" arc during The Painful. Much like a sp8, his goal seems to be physical satisfaction of various needs, even addictions - such as alcoholism and an addiction to pills. As an 8 with sx as his second instinct, he does take control of situations, but only at home - and not in an external setting. I think he is a SLI in socionics. Si goes hand-in-hand with the satisfaction of needs I described and a fixation on physical pleasures (unhealthy use of Si). Honestly I don't see how he uses Te, but I do think that he's not a Fe valuing type, since he values Fi more (his relationship with others). His suggestive Ne could represent him clinging to concepts such as religion, though since Ne is one of his 1D functions, he has a rather poor grasp of it, and uses it as an excuse. He could also be an LSI or SLE, but I'd like to hear evidence for that. Overall, he's one of the most influential characters in the franchise's story, and I think that - despite his low screentime - Austin showed us just enough to be able to type him.
