Nowak used to have a lot of xSTJ votes, but to counter those arguments, the reason for his downfall isn't an inability to break out of the mold and explore different possibilities per say, but because he didn't want to think of the implications of "what if things aren't the way they are?". He wanted to keep doing his job without thinking too much of it to provide for his family. His character itself represents the sin of ignorance and lack of questioning, but make no mistake, it is NOT because of loyalty to the current system (Te-Fi) but because facing the reality was just too bothersome for him - and doing so after losing his daughter to heresy would've meant admitting that he could've done something to prevent it, making him even more insistent on avoiding thinking about a different future, never facing the truth and drowning himself in alcohol for 20 years straight (inf Ni). He took his work very lightly as commented on by his coworkers, just doing what he was told because it was an easy way to keep living.
