Biographie
Aulisua is a Moorish god of fertility, protector of harvests, and honored in Tingitana and western Caesarea during the Roman period. Indeed, he was venerated at Volubilis, Ain Khial, and Pomaria, where in all three cases he is referred to as Sanctus, and in one of them as Invictus by military officers. Similarly, on a white marble stele from Volubilis, he is called Aug(usto). He is therefore not simply a local deity but an important Moorish one. One of the best-preserved altars discovered outside Volubilis, on its rural estate, bears on one of its faces the dedication of a freedman shoemaker (sutor) named Valerius Victor in honor of Aulisua, depicted with the features of Consus-Hercules. Thus, Aulisua could be a native Hercules. In Caesarea, he is attested by three inscriptions from the 3rd century AD.
